Effective therapy, in my view, has more to do with the relationship we build together than any process or technique. So, when I say that my approach is strengths-based and compassionate, I really mean it. It’s crucial that we acknowledge your courage and resilience without ever minimizing the struggles you are facing. I know that often, people come to therapy dealing with issues that seem insurmountable. But I also know that small improvements—a bit more insight or self-compassion, for example—can make even the largest problems start to seem manageable. Therefore, I keep therapy grounded in your practical, present-day concerns, and I value tangible, incremental progress more than any far-off promise of a cure.

In practice, I find it best to tailor my approach to each person. You might benefit most from the opportunity to process and reflect at your own pace, or you may prefer a more structured approach where we practice skills such as mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or Nonviolent Communication. If you want to explore your past experiences, including childhood, I would use an Adlerian approach, but I am equally comfortable focusing only on present-day concerns. No matter your situation, your feedback about what works and doesn’t work for you in therapy will always be our guide.

I understand how messy, intimidating, and overwhelming therapy can be, which is why I strive to provide a supportive, non-judgemental counselling environment for all my clients. I work from a solution-focused and strengths-based perspective, with an emphasis on attachment, mindfulness, psychoeducation, and trauma-informed CBT. My favourite part of therapy is getting to work with clients to identify core beliefs and challenge those pesky negative thoughts. I have worked with clients in person, by phone, and virtually, both on a long-term and short-term basis. I pick my therapeutic approach based on my client’s needs, goals, and timeline.

I provide my clients with various resources, and worksheets to encourage continued learning outside the counselling space. Client care and advocacy are important to me so if I don’t have the right tools you need, I won’t stop searching until I do! Coping with intense emotions can be stressful and heavy, so I enjoy bringing a light energy and some laughter into the counselling room when appropriate. As the saying goes, laughter truly is the best medicine!

I believe in the neuroplasticity of the mind and that we possess the power to shape and mold it to create positive and lasting changes. There is no “right way” to do therapy so I encourage my clients to come as they are and be their authentic self. As a true extrovert, I genuinely enjoy being around people and find the career of counselling extremely rewarding.

As a counsellor, I know how important it is to treat clients with unconditional positive regard and authenticity. I help clients draw upon their personal strengths and resiliency to make the changes they’d like to see in their lives.

I work with individuals who are dealing with issues relates to anxiety and depression and are wanting to chart a new direction in life. Clients may feel stuck, wanting to gain a better understanding of patterns and self-limiting thoughts. Clients may not always be aware of the factors limiting their lives. I also work with individuals who are experiencing stressors related to life transitions and are dealing with unwanted feelings connected to societal expectations.

I draw upon a wide set of theoretical orientations and interventions to help clients achieve their unique goals. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Family Systems Theory, Narrative Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. My work is trauma informed and strength based. I bring an intersectional lens to my work. I understand the importance of the cultural context to the client.

My goal is to co-create a treatment plan that will help a client achieve their short term and ultimate goals. I will work to ensure that every step in the counselling journey is meaningful and makes sense to the client. My aim is to demystify the counselling process, making it accessible. I encourage my clients to ask questions to become active participants in the counselling process.

Through my work, I realized how much pressure people experienced in their day-to-day lives and the effects this had on their relationship with themselves and others. Through my therapeutic work, I observed the consequences of society placing such a strong emphasis on perfectionism, a hyper-vigilance on “fixing” oneself, and external merit. Seeing adults, teens, and children struggling to understand their identity, self-worth, and values motivated me to gain expertise in various therapeutic modalities. As a mother of two young children, I wish to continue sharing my support in encouraging children, teens, and adults to reconnect with their values, personal knowledge, unique narratives, and own definition of personhood, while fostering an empowering relationship with themselves.

My therapeutic orientation and counselling approach is client-centered and incorporates Narrative, Adlerian, Rogerian, Cognitive-Behavioural, Play/Art Therapy, and Mindfulness approaches.
